Also, since this is Friday, we thought you may want a new sketch. Now, we have already had 4 sketches for this month and our challenges draw to a close tomorrow, but in case you are scrapping tonight or tomorrow, we thought we would share the sketch we will be using at this weekends retreat.  You are welcome to virtually play along with us, and as an added bonus, if you link up your creation before midnight on Saturday, you will get in on our monthly prize draw!

Here is a run down of the Sketch-y Friday rules.  Just link up your creations in our sidebar to be entered into a random draw for a prize.    You have until Saturday, March 29th, at midnight to participate in any of March's sketch challenges, each linkup tool will remain open until that date!  If you are playing along with more than one challenge you will need to link each of them up via a separate blog post for the link up tool to work. (International participants may be required to pay some shipping fees.)

Please note the change in our rules, you no longer need to play along with 2 sketches to be eligible for entry into our prize draw!  Therefore, you can link up all  layouts for the month on one linky tool, this will make it possible for us to use Random Integer to draw for a winner. And we love the fairness of that!

Flower Embellishment - Tutorial

Hi there!

It's Laura here sharing a quick flower embellishment with you today.

To create this flower you will need to punch or die cute a circle in the size of your choice.

Flip over your circle and use a pencil and a ruler to divide up the circle into equal partitions.

Using scissors snip out every second section, being careful not to go too close to the centre.

Flip it back over.

Add a button to the centre and add to your project.

And that's it, it is that easy!

Be sure to check back next Wednesday, I have something really cool to share with you!

Thanks for visiting!

DIY Enamel Dots - Tutorial

Hi friends!

http://www.mymindseye.com/Now&then/Now%20&%20Then/Lightbox/Accessories/1-Dorothy/NT1005.jpgIt's Wednesday and so I bring you another tutorial!   Are you a fan of these enamel dots like I am?
Well recently I came across a few ideas on how to make your own.  I opted to attempt the least odor inducing method.  Bet you didn't know that all of the tutorials that I attempt to put together to share with you don't actually make it to "print".

Some of the tutorials I share are ones that I find while researching online, others are my own ideas. But no matter how the ideas comes, I attempt to create each and every idea.  And honestly, some are just too complicated and so not worth it, others turn out way too ugly!  And some require a 'take 2 or 3".  So when I attempted this one, there were a couple of times that I was not sure whether or not it would work.  But, it really did!

So lets get started. You will need some Glossy Accents, Liquid Glass or other similar type product that dries hard and some waxed paper.

Go ahead and squeeze out a few rows of evenly sized blobs (yup we are getting technical!) onto the waxed paper.  Try not to make them too large or they will dimple in the middle as they dry. (This was one time when I was unsure if this would work.)  Leave these to dry for quite a while.  Put them in a safe place and do not do what I did and forget they are there and put something else on top of them. ha!  That's why my next photo looks totally different!

For the next step you will need some nail polish, in your favourite colours.  If you are not a nail polish owner / wearer hit the dollar store.  They have lots of 'tacky' nail colours that would be great for enamel dot colours.  And a $1.00 bottle will make hundreds if not more!

So now you want to go ahead and paint the dried Glossy Accent dots.  In case you hadn't guessed, this was the second time I thought to myself "there is no way this well work".  I can't not neatly paint these little tiny dots.  My hands are to big and my eyes too weak.  But I just plugged away, as I had nothing to lose.  You could always use a small paint brush, of course, this occurs to me afterwards and not at the time! ha! Now leave these to dry again, it doesn't take as long.

Once they were dried I discovered that wherever I painted messily around the edges the nail polish just flaked off so it really wasn't a problem that my painting wasn't great.  You just want to make sure that you have good and smooth coverage on the actual dots.

So, I thought I should show you that I actually used the dots that I made.  They were the perfect fun addition to this card that I made for a friend.

All in all, you should really give this one a try.  Aside from the obvious drying time it only took a few seconds to squeeze out the dots and a few more to paint them.  You could squeeze out a few dozen while watching tv (Criminal Minds)  one night and paint them the next night during your tv watching (Greys Anatomy).

Shamrock Tutorial

Hi there!

I have a new tutorial to share today.  In the spirit of upcoming St. Patrick's Day, I thought I would share an easy way tot make a pretty shamrock with you.  I have added mine to a card, but I really think this would look so pretty on a layout, so I have that on my to do list.

To start with you will need 6 hearts (punched, die cut or hand cut, whatever suits).

Now fold each one in half.

Adhere them to your layout out card in a shamrock pattern, with the creases of sets of two facing each other.  Only add adhesive to the bottom half, leaving the upper half sort of free flowing.

Take a pencil and draw a stem. Pierce along stem at about every 1/4"  or so.

Now stitch along the stem.  Add a button or something similar to the centre, and you are done.

This is my finished card.  Looks kind of cute all pulled together, eh?

Washi tip

Hi there!

Are you like me, when you are out and about, do you see cute Washi and pick up some new ones to add to your stash?  Only to get home to find out you may have one or two of them already.  Well here is a little tip so that you will always know what you have on hand...

Gather up your Washi and a few little tags.

Wrap a piece of each design around the tags.  Add a jump ring and you have a purse sized sample of each style you have on hand.

Now you won't inadvertently buy any duplicates and can spend your scrappy dollars on fun new stuff!

Okay back to work I go, making tags for the rest of my Washi stash!

Have a great day!
